LitVM Token Economics: zkLTC and the $LITVM Model
An architectural breakdown of LitVM's dual-token design, covering zkLTC gas mechanics, $LITVM utility, revenue distribution, and allocation governance.
Updated
The LitVM economic architecture operates on a two-token model comprising zkLTC as the gas asset and $LITVM as the governance and utility asset. As of 15 August 2026, $LITVM does not exist as a tradeable asset, and any token currently presented for purchase or trading is fraudulent. The LitVM network is currently running on the LiteForge testnet, with the $LITVM Token Generation Event (TGE) scheduled to follow testnet completion, and mainnet launching only after the TGE and comprehensive security audits.
LitVM is designed as a hybrid rollup rather than a pure zkRollup, combining Arbitrum Nitro for optimistic execution with Succinct SP1 zkVM for generating validity proofs. Its economic design separates the network's transactional medium of exchange from its long-term protocol equity and governance.
The Two-Token System: zkLTC and $LITVM
LitVM splits network functionality between two distinct assets to avoid forcing users to pay network fees in a volatile, native governance token.
| Property | zkLTC | $LITVM |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Role | Gas token and base transactional asset | Governance and utility token |
| Supply Model | Elastic (tracks bridged LTC) | Fixed supply |
| Backing | 1:1 backed by LTC locked on Litecoin L1 | Protocol equity and fee share (no direct collateral) |
| Redeemability | Always redeemable 1:1 for LTC via Grail bridge | Non-redeemable for L1 reserves |
| Current Status | Testnet gas on LitVM LiteForge | Non-existent; TGE pending post-testnet |
zkLTC: The Base Gas Asset
All execution fees on LitVM are denominated and paid in zkLTC. zkLTC is minted on LitVM when users deposit native LTC through the BitcoinOS Grail bridge, which uses BitSNARKs, Taproot locks on the Litecoin mainchain, 300-byte proofs, and a 1-of-n honest verifier assumption. Because zkLTC supply strictly mirrors the volume of LTC locked on the Litecoin mainchain, it has an elastic supply and can always be redeemed 1:1 for native LTC.
Paying gas in zkLTC means that the operational cost of using LitVM is denominated in an external commodity that the rollup does not create or inflate. This ties the network's base unit of account directly to Litecoin's base-layer value.
$LITVM: Governance and Utility
$LITVM is the fixed-supply governance and utility token of the LitVM rollup. Unlike zkLTC, $LITVM is designed to capture the economic throughput of the layer-2 network. Holders and stakers of $LITVM receive a direct share of network revenue rather than holding purely speculative voting rights.
Protocol Revenue and Staking Mechanics
The economic yield delivered to $LITVM stakers originates from three primary sources across the LitVM ecosystem:
- Sequencer Fees: LitVM relies on Espresso, a permissionless shared sequencer, to order transactions. A portion of the fees generated from ordering rollup transactions is distributed directly to $LITVM stakers.
- Institutional Yield Vaults: LitVM integrates institutional yield vaults, notably developed in partnership with the DNA Fund. These vaults publish a targeted yield of 7–11% APR on spot LTC, with returns accruing natively in LTC.
- Protocol Fees: Standard application layer and infrastructure fees generated by the rollup ecosystem contribute to the protocol treasury and staking distributions.
By tying staking rewards to sequencer fees and institutional vault revenue, $LITVM acts as an economic claim on actual rollup usage.
Supply Allocation and Treasury Governance
The supply of $LITVM is fixed. To prioritize decentralization and ecosystem adoption, 51% of the total $LITVM token supply is reserved exclusively for the community.
Governance of the network and oversight of the 51% community reserve is divided between the Litecoin DAO and a dedicated five-seat Treasury Board:
- Litecoin DAO: Responsible for voting on core protocol parameters, ecosystem grant distribution, and network upgrades.
- Treasury Board: A five-seat governing council that oversees community fund allocations. The seats are allocated to:
- Aztec Amaya (Co-founder, Lunar Digital Assets)
- Roc Zacharias (Co-founder, Lunar Digital Assets)
- David Schwartz (Director of Partnerships, Litecoin Foundation)
- Community Majority Opinion Seat (voted by token holders)
- Unannounced Seat (to be designated)
Governance Proposal Lifecycle
For protocol changes or treasury distributions to pass, proposals must complete a four-stage process:
- Initial Submission: A formal proposal is submitted to the governance forum.
- Temperature Check: An informal community poll determines general sentiment.
- Detailed Proposal: The full architectural or financial specifications are finalized.
- Treasury Board Vote: The five-seat Treasury Board conducts the final formal vote.
Network Status and Launch Timeline
As of 15 August 2026, LitVM remains in its testnet phase under the name LitVM LiteForge (Chain ID 4441). The testnet has been operational since April 2026 and has processed 237.1 million transactions across 40.5 million blocks with 13.1 million unique wallets and an average block time of 161ms.
The official token generation event ($LITVM TGE) will not take place until after the conclusion of the LiteForge testnet. Following the TGE and the completion of ongoing third-party security audits, LitVM will deploy to mainnet.
Questions
Can I buy the LitVM token ($LITVM) right now?
No. As of 15 August 2026, the $LITVM token does not exist as a tradeable asset. The Token Generation Event (TGE) will occur only after the LiteForge testnet concludes, and any platform claiming to sell $LITVM today is fraudulent.
What is the difference between zkLTC and $LITVM?
zkLTC is the rollup's gas and base asset, which has an elastic supply backed 1:1 by LTC locked on the Litecoin mainchain via the BitcoinOS Grail bridge. $LITVM is the network's fixed-supply governance and utility token, which provides a share of sequencer and protocol fees to stakers.
How is the $LITVM token supply distributed?
$LITVM has a fixed supply, with 51% reserved for community allocation. The community reserve is managed by a five-seat Treasury Board comprising Aztec Amaya, Roc Zacharias, David Schwartz, an unannounced member, and a seat dedicated to the majority community opinion.
How does $LITVM generate revenue for stakers?
$LITVM stakers and holders receive distributions derived from shared sequencer fees via Espresso, protocol-level fees, and institutional yield vaults developed with the DNA Fund offering 7–11% APR on spot LTC accruing in LTC.
